Information design as “multimedia translation”
The importance of creative work areas and their socio-economic framework conditions have changed the activity of design in the present era. The change in design is also related to factors arising from the activity itself. Design today is dependent on multidisciplinary teamwork. The changed requirements demand even more than before a way of working that combines practical design activity with scientific reflection.
Information designers enable the transfer of knowledge without which communicative action can no longer take place today.
Information designers find images and metaphors and make the transfer of data vivid and tangible.
Information designers create interfaces between information systems, users and their actions.
Master’s degree course »Design and Information«
The consecutive Master's degree course in Design and Information focuses on the areas of information design and multimedia knowledge culture. The training model serves to qualify students for independent and scientifically based project work in the field of information design. The focus is on the combination of future-oriented, application-oriented and basic research. With the Master's degree course, the Faculty of Design offers a forum for graduate students who work independently on their own project-ideas.
The »Design and Information« course develops structures, models, theories and languages of design practice as well as cultural and social sciences - with reference to the respective research interests of the students.
The program is offered as a full-time course and covers a standard period of study of three semesters. During the entire duration of the study program, students work on a project that consists of three consecutive modules and is completed with a Master's thesis. All project phases are accompanied by Master's colloquia. Additional lectures serve to deepen the content, design, scientific and interdisciplinary knowledge.

About this Website
Information design has increasingly established itself as a field of study in the curricula of design education over the past few decades. On the one hand, as a practical and theoretical field with its various areas of work, and on the other hand, as a programmatic approach that is increasingly sought after by students as a relevant and meaningful professional perspective. This website provides an overview of the currently offered programs at various universities.
