What drives the issues of our society and our future? And how can these be communicated visually?
The Master's programme "Interactive Information Design" at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel researches and designs visual formats to make information accessible in a communicative and innovative way. In recent years, many projects have been created that deal with scientific topics. Visual science communication has developed into a thematic focus in which various media and forms of presentation are used to inspire people who are not normally so interested in scientific content.
Bachelor Program
The Bachelor's degree programme is part of the Communication Design curriculum. At the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, communication design describes an interplay of different creative means of expression: Illustration, photography, typography, language and interactive media, each of which is artistically and technically complex and demanding in its own right, are combined in a variety of ways to create books, films, exhibitions, performances, visuals, posters, typefaces, animations, websites, magazines and much more.
The Interactive Media course deals with the conceptual, communication-specific and technical design issues of interactive and networked media. Seminars and projects deal with the aesthetics and semiotics of digital media and analyse their interaction principles. In interdisciplinary projects, various forms of media presentation are explored, from information design and online applications through animation and motion graphics to virtual and immersive spaces
Master Program
If information is not just considered statically, there are many new ways of gaining knowledge. Interactivity makes it possible to filter information, change perspectives and make individual selections. In addition, dynamic information or data visualisations can refer to current or even real-time values and thus best express the dynamics of our fast-moving society. We experiment with the latest technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality, as well as with the reinterpretation of classic media, such as interactive posters and spatial installations. We are critical, but also very curious.

About this Website
Information design has increasingly established itself as a field of study in the curricula of design education over the past few decades. On the one hand, as a practical and theoretical field with its various areas of work, and on the other hand, as a programmatic approach that is increasingly sought after by students as a relevant and meaningful professional perspective. This website provides an overview of the currently offered programs at various universities.

AG Info?
The Information Design Working Group, or AG Info for short, is an informal arrangement among universities that provides an overview of the range of different programs – from specific to holistic, but always with the goal of further advancing information design in research, teaching, and transfer as a forward-looking factor in design.
