Interface Design combines user experience (UX) with user interface design (UI) and information design.
Based on the fact that digital devices and systems are only accessible to us via interfaces, the course pursues a very broad conceptual and creative approach. Our teaching is focused on research-based learning.
The Interface Design program conducts research into current topics in human-computer interaction and information visualization. It participates in national and international research projects and conducts research for companies and institutions. Finally, it systematically integrates research-based learning into the courses offered on its Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
The project-oriented module structure of the program enables students to participate in research projects at an early stage. Students benefit from the proximity to the latest developments in interface design. Students are systematically introduced to the methodology of modern design research. In this way, they acquire a competence profile that qualifies them for highly qualified activities in interface, product and service development, as well as for more research-oriented activities in scientific institutions.
Research activities in interface design are bundled in the Interaction Design Lab (IDL) and the Urban Complexity Lab (UCLAB).
Bachelor Program
Characteristic of the Design Department is the close integration of the Interface, Communication and Product Design and European Media Studies courses, a cooperation project with the University of Potsdam. This intersection creates a unique, interdisciplinary educational profile with a strong focus on research and practice, which is reflected in numerous projects, exhibitions and collaborations every year. Close cooperation with business and cultural institutions as well as a lively exchange between teaching staff, students and international universities characterize the learning atmosphere.
Master Program
We are interested in the role of design in the context of its social, ecological and political responsibility, as well as in its role in artistic practice. The FH Potsdam offers you the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the three - closely interlinked - degree programs Interface, Communication and Product Design and to examine your research question from different perspectives. Whether speculation, design research, problem solving or artistic practice, the diversity of our design approaches, research topics and specializations offers a connection for your research question.

About this Website
Information design has increasingly established itself as a field of study in the curricula of design education over the past few decades. On the one hand, as a practical and theoretical field with its various areas of work, and on the other hand, as a programmatic approach that is increasingly sought after by students as a relevant and meaningful professional perspective. This website provides an overview of the currently offered programs at various universities.

AG Info?
The Information Design Working Group, or AG Info for short, is an informal arrangement among universities that provides an overview of the range of different programs – from specific to holistic, but always with the goal of further advancing information design in research, teaching, and transfer as a forward-looking factor in design.
